Cradle Mountain & Sheffield

Day 3 of my adventures in Tasmania

· National Parks,Australia

In the north end of Cradle Mountain-Lake St. Clair National Park is Cradle Mountain. The park was saved thanks to an Austrian naturalist Gustaf Weindorfer and his Australian wife, who privately purchased all the land, and worked to protect it. The area opened as a national park in 1971.We did the Dove Lake Circuit Trail, a two-hour hike around the lake at the base of the mountain. For hours and fees check out their visitor information.

Sheffield is a town that wanted to grow its tourism. Inspired by a town in Canada, they began painting wall murals. Now they have a festival once a year, with a competition involved.
